Rescued Bunny Update (Great News!)
Just a quick note to let everyone know we released the bunny today and he appears to be doing 100 percent better than when we took him in 4 days ago . He was eating like a little hog, drinking well and starting to be alot more lively in his cage. I do believe he grew quite a bit as well. I found a secluded spot in the state park, close to a small lake with lots of shadey cover. He was hesitant to hop away but I could tell he felt fine, and eventually he took to cover and hopped away from me when I tried to approach him. I am so thrilled to know he survived his ordeal, and that he didnt seem to stress out like everything I read and all the wildlife rehab places told me. Thanks everyone for the well wishes for him. Off to prepare now for a huge party tomorrow :)

Baby Rabbit Rescue Attempt.. Please help!
Well on our way to Wal Mart this evening, in the 93 degree heat out in the middle of a busy road was a baby rabbit, barely moving, half heartedly trying to get out of the way of traffic. Hubby quickly turned around, I jumped out of the car to see the bunny while hubby blocked traffic with the car. He didn't appear to be hurt, except for a small amount of blood on his back foot. As I approached him he laid very still just until I reached down to get him and then he limped off onto the shoulder of the road. I yelled for hubby to grab a towel in the car which I softly put over the rabbit and scooped him up, brought him home and now he is in my basement in a wire hutch with water and a variety of flowers/vegetables to eat and a bowl of water.... I am thinking he may have gotten in the road, wasn't exactly "hit" by a car but perhaps scattered around amongst traffic, scraped himself up pretty good and laid there dazed in the heat. He was panting and breathing so hard as if he was heat exhausted. He is old enough to be without his mother, I would guess 6-8 weeks and I am SO hoping he shows signs of improvement in a few days and all will be well with him.
I am so torn on this little rabbit. I read several wildlife rehab sites online and spoke to one(rather cold hearted) wildlife expert this morning and most of what I hear, claims that baby rabbits have a very high stress level, and most rabbits brought in for rehab will not make it, because of stress. She said he would no doubt be someones lunch or dinner if I let him go, but that's the way it is in nature. Well of course I understand natural selection and the survival of the fittest, etc., but I just don't know if I can let him go knowing full well he won't make it with his hurt paw. Right now he is eating well and drinking water, and seemingly "unstressed". Plus we are supposed to get strong storms this afternoon and evening, with hail and heavy winds so the thought of him out in that kills me. Please everyone give me your thoughts.... I am thinking that if by morning, if he is still surviving, his paw will be that much more healed, and the storms will be over. He will havea full stomach and over his heat exhaustion, so at that time I will let him go in an area that has no dogs, no cats and no people, some shelter, water and greens to eat. I am so torn. 3 days before the big party and I have a list a mile long of things to do but all I can think of is whether or not I am doing the right thing. Any advice PLEASE!

When It Rains, It Pours!
My Mother used to have more sayings than I can remember, and my kids tease me of how many I say myself. It seems as though I have (thanks to my dear Mother) a saying for every occasion, problem, or occurence in life. Right now " When It Rains, It Pours" feels very appropriate, as we have not only had some torrential rain lately with more expected this weekend, but lately life has handed me more than I wonder if I can handle. Although my old saying "Things could always be worse" is always true and I remind myself that daily, I still feel a bit overwhelmed. My 18 year old son graduating from High School, and moving on to a wonderful college to live his dream of playing college baseball (Go Adrian Bulldogs!) means getting his graduation open house party planned. Now only a week away! Then after that, getting him packed up and sent off to school. My daughter is also planning the next step in her life, heading to the "Big Apple" to continue her life in photography. Yes she is that good, and no I have no doubt that she will "make it" there, and "If you can make it there you can make it anywhere". I couldn't be happier for her, but sad for me at the same time. My 21 year old son seems steady and even keeled right now, awaiting his next year of art school 2 hours away. Loving it, so I also couldn't be happier about that, but what will the next step be for him? My 9 year old daughter who is very much still tied to her Mother's apron strings is undergoing some very scarey tests, for what they claim to be juvenile arthritis. Of course I am scared to death but also very optimistic that things will work out. As they say it's the waiting that gets to you, the unknown. On a good note, I have been asked to teach 5 workshops this fall and more in the winter months. I am excited about that, but along with a large art show in August I will have a booth in, I feel like I must have that "deer in the headlights" look about me. I am afraid I will be a little distant from my blog in the upcoming weeks. I am looking forward to entering a few art challenges and will certainly post on those, but I feel I am also entering a new challenge in life, therefore some things must "get put on the back burner". "This too shall pass", and until it does I will surely miss following and being followed by people who inspire me to move forward in creating! I will look forward to getting back on track in blogland, and until then, Happy Creating!
