~~Tim Holtz Rosettte Die Valentine Project~~Advice Anyone?

Valentines Day has never been one of my favorites, not even for decorating.  But I recenlty purchased the Tim Holtz Sizzix die to create paper rosettes, and thought they would do up a nice Valentines project.  I like the finished product.... now, after wasting several sheets of paper (including vintage sheet music) and spending what felt like hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.  If you know this die, you know it cuts perforations where you fold accordian style, to create the rosette.  Well my perforations cut right through the paper, leaving it in pieces when I folded them.  Sheet after sheet of paper ripped to shreds! I used thinner paper, and I used thicker paper. And I tried other weights in between.  Finally I stacked several sheets of paper together, but only could use a few of the layers as others, again,  tore at the perforation . Has anyone used this die with their Sizzix?  I would be forever grateful for any help that would make these cute rosettes more fun to make!

If you go to the all things tim Yahoo group they can help you. They discussed this during the month of December. Love your creations.

I have not used this die, but I am in the Tim Yahoo group and read that if you stick a piece of tape on the back of the paper before you accordian fold it up it won't rip. A hot glue gun seems to be the choice for sticking them down with the circle die cut...

Some people put tape on the back before they start folding.

A hint from Sizzix was to set the die at an angle instead of straight on. That works perfectly for me.

Mine d it too. I take regular scotch tape and tape the backs of them from end to end in about the middle of the full length. Don't get your tape over the edges though or hard to glue the ends together. Mine work great now since I have been doing this.

I have this die and used it no problem in the Cuttlebug, then took it to an association and used it with their Big Shot and had the same problem. I was really shocked that a Sizzix die worked better in the Bug but I could not get the same result in the Big Shot. I have seen where someone has put tissue tape along the bottom edge which held it together without making it hard to fold and was a pretty addition.
Your hanging here is lovely too.

It's also been recommended that you use layers of paper, not just single sheets, when using this die. It does indeed cut deeply!

Your rosettes are beautiful!

sorry, I don't have the tim holtz die (although I have most of everything tim holtz lol). I love these rosettes though, they would look so good on a vintage banner for valentines day!

OOOoooh...I am soooo frustrated! I just bought the die plus the long extender plates just so I could start making rosettes - only to find I am having the same problem.
Grrr...!! I don't want to be wasting my time or paper. I also don't think you should have to take extra steps like taping etc. they should have tweaked the final product so people could have used these with ease. Creating is suppose to be an enjoyable process! If you find a solution anyone. Please let me know! I can't take any of these items back to the store because I got them with a small discount and there are no returns on these items...otherwise I would have probably just taken them back!
